During the 1st quarter of 2017, twelve centers started to collect biological samples. Samples were taken from 516 patients using 526 OFSEP sample kits (8 patients had two sets of samples taken, 1 patient had three sets of samples taken). The OFSEP sample kit is to the set, for the same patient, of blood, urine, CSF and stool samples taken according to standardized procedures.

The OFSEP collection therefore has 526 OFSEP kit samples (526 patient blood samples, 462 patient urine samples, 234 patient CSF samples, and 7 patient stool samples totaling 13,986 aliquot biological samples).

Most of the samples (43.0%) are from patients with a clinically isolated syndrome (CIS); 28.7% from patients with acute neuromyelitis optica (Devic's syndrome) and related neurological syndromes (NMOSD) and 16.8% are from primary progressive MS patients (PPMS). Less than 10% of samples are from radiologically isolated syndromes (RIS, 6.5%), acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM, 1.9%), progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML, 0.8%) and relapsing-remitting MS patients (RRMS, 0.6%).

The first sample was taken during the last quarter (Q4) of 2013. Since 2013, the opening of new sampling centers and the rationalization of our internal processes have resulted in an extremely significant increase in the number of samples available, which should enable the provision of approximately 800 samples by the end of 2017.
